The Shepherds Bothy has been a ruin for the last 50 years and we took the decision to renovate it and turn it into holiday accommodation.
It sits on a quiet farm track, a few minutes walk from our Coffee Shop on the estate.
Previously used as a house for the estate Shepherd over 100 years ago, later on it was used as the Gas works for the Castle. When electricity was installed, the cottage was left to nature and became a store for old baths and cookers! It has now been converted into a cosy cottage with a sitting room with a wood burning stove, with a lovely vaulted ceiling. It has a kitchen which opens onto the patio at the side of the house and an internal bathroom which has a shower fitted over the bath. There is a mezzanine bedroom open to the sitting room with a king size bed.
Spectacular views to the Outer Hebrides from every room.
The flat is located on the ground floor of the castle overlooking the front lawns.
There is also a deep Victorian pedestal bath – perfect for soaking in after a hard day’s fishing or walking. The kitchen houses what was once the castle strong room, complete with a solid steel door.
The entrance to the Terrace flat is down a stone staircase to the side of the Castle. There is an open fire in the flat and a plentiful supply of logs available from the wood store.
